Why dating in Miami feels harder than it should
"Miami is a hard city to date in" isn't a complaint you invented — it's a running local storyline, covered everywhere from Time Out to the Miami New Times. On paper this is one of the best cities in America to be single. In practice, the apps make it feel like the worst. Three reasons, none of them your fault:
- Everyone just got here. About 15% of Miami residents moved in the past year. Roughly one in seven matches is mid-relocation — and a swipe app can't tell you who's actually staying.
- Swipe fatigue is measurable. 78% of dating-app users report burnout, 41% report being ghosted, and 38% report being catfished. In an image-first city, the gap between profile and person runs wider than average.
- Florida is catfish country. The state ranks second in the country for money lost to romance scams. Verification here isn't a nice-to-have; it's table stakes.
Miami doesn't have a shortage of beautiful people. It has a shortage of people who show up.
What "video-first" actually means
A video-first dating app makes short video — not static photos — the core of every profile. On Nyada, members record a short intro in the app. You can hear someone's voice and get a sense of their personality before starting a conversation.
More ways to get to know someone
Phone sign-in, profile capture, voice notes, and calls give you more context as you get to know someone. You can report or block a member. The optional AI photo check asks for your permission and does not verify someone's identity or guarantee their authenticity. Read about the information we collect in our Privacy Policy.

A field guide to dating in Miami
Every neighborhood has its own pace. Here’s a guide to finding your kind of connection around the city:
Brickell
Vertical Miami. Finance and tech transplants living in high-rises, working late, dating efficiently — the scene runs on happy hours and rooftops. It's the crowd most saturated on swipe apps and most starved for anything that cuts through. Brickell works late; we built for that.
Wynwood
The creative register: murals, galleries, breweries, Panther Coffee patios. More tattoos, fewer ties — and honestly the best first-date terrain in Miami, because a gallery walk and a beer beats a $200 dinner audition. Second Saturday Art Walk is the recurring heartbeat.
Coconut Grove
Old-Miami calm under banyan trees. Sidewalk cafés around GreenStreet, sailing-club energy, people who own dogs and go home before 1am. The Grove goes home early — and that's the appeal. Skews 30s+, more settled, done auditioning.
Coral Gables
Mediterranean-revival streets and the Miracle Mile date-night row. Quieter, more traditional, more intentional — the neighborhood where “what are we” gets asked earliest. That's a feature.
South Beach — the honest caveat
Beautiful, electric, and mostly not local. The person you meet Thursday flies home Sunday, and apps geolocated to the Beach fill with vacation mode. Nyada is building its first community around people in South Florida.
From voice note to first date
The whole point of skipping text purgatory is getting to a real table faster. Five first dates that actually work here — useful whether or not you ever download the app:
- Wynwood: Second Saturday Art Walk, then a patio beer at Veza Sur — built-in conversation, zero pressure.
- Brickell: A rooftop drink at golden hour; if it's going well, dinner is a one-block walk away.
- Coconut Grove: Coffee at GreenStreet and a slow walk under the banyans — the anti-nightclub first date.
- Little Havana: Cafecito at a ventanita, then salsa at Ball & Chain. Miami dates happen in two languages.
- Downtown: Bayfront walk as the cruise ships light up — free, unhurried, and better than any lounge.

Questions, answered straight
What is Nyada?
Nyada is a video-first dating app on iPhone. Profiles include short intro videos, and conversations start with voice notes rather than texts. After audio and video calls, both people can choose to share their phone numbers. Signup is open to adults 18+, without an invitation or a Boca location requirement.
What is a video-first dating app?
A video-first dating app puts short video at the center of a profile. On Nyada, members record an intro in the app so you can hear their voice and get a sense of their personality before starting a conversation.
Is Nyada available in Miami now?
Yes. You can download Nyada on iPhone and sign up from Miami without an invite. Our community is still growing, so the number of nearby profiles will vary. Android is not available yet.
What safety features does Nyada offer?
Nyada uses phone sign-in, in-app profile capture, and a conversation flow that includes audio and video calls. Members can report or block someone. An optional AI photo check requires your permission; it is not identity verification and cannot guarantee that a profile is authentic.
Do I need an invite code?
No. Download Nyada on iPhone and create your account in the app. You must be 18 or older, but you don’t need to join an interest list or live in Boca.
How do conversations work on Nyada if there's no texting?
You open with a voice note, not a message — hearing someone's actual voice changes everything. Conversations are turn-based and build toward a real video call inside the app, so momentum grows instead of fizzling into a dead chat. The goal is a real date, not a pen pal.
How do I get started with Nyada?
Download Nyada from the App Store and create your profile in the app. No invitation is required. You can optionally join our community and Android update list, but it is not required to use Nyada. Android has no announced launch date.
